Match Report
India Women chased down 149 with authority to claim a six-wicket victory over England Women in the third T20I at The Oval in London on Friday. Smriti Mandhana was once again in sublime touch, anchoring the chase with a dazzling 41-ball 67 after left-arm spinner Shree Charani picked up two wickets in the England innings as India took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
Asked to bat first, England Women were rocked early by the sharp swing of Arundhati Reddy as Danni Wyatt’s lean patch continued despite Sophia Dunkley getting a brisk start. The hosts, however, found stability through a fluent partnership between captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Tammy Beaumont, who added 65 runs in quick time. Both struck the ball cleanly, using their feet well against spin but India pulled things back in the final overs with the spin duo of Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma choking the run flow. England managed to get 148/6 aided by their skipper Sciver-Brunt’s 32-ball 45, which included six fours and a six. For India, left-arm spinner Charani finished with impressive figures of 2/21 while Radha Yadav and Deepti picked up a wicket apiece.
India's chase got a solid launchpad through Mandhana, who continued her dominant form after a century in the first game. Though Shafali Verma fell early again, Mandhana’s lofts and drives on either side of the wicket allowed India to recover quickly and kept England at bay. Jemimah Rodrigues, in her usual style, kept herself busy at the crease with some smart running and timely boundaries en route to her 24-ball 31. Lauren Bell struck twice to bring back some tension, but Amanjot Kaur (28* off 19) showed great poise under pressure, taking the side close to a win with back-to-back boundaries in the 18th over. India closed the match in the penultimate over as they went past the target with 10 balls to spare. Mandhana top-scored in the contest hitting nine fours and two sixes during her knock of 67 from 41 balls while Lauren Bell was England’s best bowler on show with a spell of 2/22.
Player of the Match
