ENG vs IND | Twitter in splits as Rishabh Pant turns hammer thrower hurling his bat while attempting shot

Rishabh Pant’s batting has been box-office with his falling shots, single-handed slogs and the bat hurling every now and then never failing to entertain. The Indian wicketkeeper was at it again in the second Test against England as he threw his bat while going for a shot against pacer Josh Tongue.

‌India, after starting with an overnight lead of 244 runs, lost both Karun Nair and KL Rahul with their second innings score reading 126. Rishabh Pant walked in at a crucial juncture on day four of the second Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. But Pant indicated that he was not someone to get bogged down under pressure as he tried to step out against Josh Tongue on the very first ball.

He persisted with his aggressive approach, getting off the mark with a four before charging down the track the next ball to dispatch Tongue out of the park. He continued to display his array of shots, dominating the pacer with a short-arm cut and a kneeling slog-sweep for six over fine leg in the next over.

The Indian vice-captain marched into the 30s in quick time as he took on off-spinner Shoaib Bashir for two more boundaries. His swashbuckling ways at the crease took India’s lead closer to the 350-run mark just when he pulled out his trademark act.

Pant, in his attempt to go across the line and smash Tongue again, threw his bat as the ball made its way to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith after pitching on a length outside off stump. Smith was amused by the distance the bat sailed as he sighed after collecting the ball as square leg umpire Chris Gaffaney was saved with the willow flying to his left.

As Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj enjoyed the familiar antics from Pant with wide smiles on their faces, skipper Shubman Gill was concerned about losing his deputy. As Pant was on his way after picking up his bat, Gill came in for a quiet advice, knowing well that Pant is not going to take that.

Twitter was in splits and thoroughly enjoyed one of his patented actions during his stay at the crease.

What was that?

Rishabh Pant for you!

Going good!
