ENG vs IND | Twitter salutes as Siraj has last laugh over Ollie Pope after successful review

Mohammed Siraj has often been seen as someone who is very emotional, especially with his DRS requests. But it was a welcome exception against England at Lord’s as he successfully persuaded captain Shubman Gill to review Ollie Pope’s LBW decision before earning plaudits from his teammates.

‌With scores level after the first innings of the third Test between England and India at Lord’s, the match sat on a knife-edge with the home side starting day four at 2/0. The England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley struggled with the variable bounce, with India giving nothing away with the new ball.

The pressure finally played into the batters’ minds as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Ben Duckett, who mistimed a shot straight to the mid-on fielder. The pacer was pumped up as he came into bowl his sixth straight over with impressive figures of 1/10, including a maiden in his first five.

He bowled a jaffa off the last ball which pitched on a length outside off stump before seaming in to pass Ollie Pope’s willow. The Gujarat Titans pacer was sure that he got his man as he appealed vociferously, but umpire Paul Reiffel thought otherwise. Siraj was confident as he immediately turned to skipper Shubman Gill to persuade him for a review.

With Siraj confirming that the height was right, Gill went for the review despite missing out on the last occasion earlier in the day. Mohammed Siraj’s request stood vindicated as three red lights forced Pope to start his long walk back to the pavilion.

Twitter was impressed with Siraj as the bowler glowed in the limelight, with teammates congratulating him for an excellent call.
