SA vs AUS | Twitter stunned as Webster goes the wrong way before completing a blinder to end Proteas innings

Catches win matches they say and Beau Webster echoed that with a marvellous effort to end South Africa’s first innings in the WTC 2025 final at Lord’s. The Australian all-rounder misjudged a pull shot from Kagiso Rabada going to his right first before sighting the ball and completing a diving catch.

‌South Africa after their inept batting display on the first day of the World Test Championship 2025 final at Lord’s looked to make amends with an aggressive approach in the first session of day two. Captain Temba Bavuma came all guns blazing with two lofted boundaries of Mitchell Starc in the third over of the day as they looked to close down on the Aussies’ total of 212.

Bavuma and David Bedingham added 64 runs for the fifth wicket but the Proteas skipper was caught at cover for 36 off his counterpart Pat Cummins against the run of play. That signalled a shift in the winds as South Africa slipped from 94/4 to 138/9 with Bedingham top-scoring with a patient 45 and being the only other batter to go past the 20-run mark.

Pat Cummins, having already matched Kagiso Rabada’s five-wicket haul, was looking to go one better and shut the Proteas innings. And he bowled a shorter delivery to Rabada who came out with a full-blooded pull with Beau Webster placed at square leg just for that.

The tall Australian all-rounder was literally blind as he took two or three steps to his right but quickly made amends to turn left and run forward. The wrong start meant he had very little time to reach the ball but Webster quickly lunged forward from his tall height to complete a forward-diving catch to help Cummins pick up six and end the innings.

Twitter was impressed with Webster adjusting quickly to pouch the red cherry, that was travelling, with a stupendous effort.
