In reply, LAKR could manage only 144/7 in their stipulated 20 overs with Unmukt Chand scoring a run-a-ball 30 and captain Jason Holder remaining unbeaten on 26 off 17 balls. The spin duo of Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein ended with figures of 2/27 and 2/10, respectively as TSK notched up their fourth win in the tournament to move to second place in the MLC 2025 points table. With their fourth loss in five matches, LAKR is currently second from bottom in the current edition.
With the pair of Ranjane and Ferreira adding 82 off 40 balls for the fifth wicket, TSK were well-placed to go past the 200-run mark with the score reading 178/4 with 11 balls to spare. But a comedy of errors ensured that TSK ended four runs short of the desired target.
After getting hit for a six off the first ball of the penultimate over, Ali Khan banged one short to Ferreira that sailed over the batter’s head. With the all-rounder watching the ball travel to the keeper and waiting for the umpire to signal wide for an overhead bouncer, Ranjane rushed from the non-striker’s end in a bid to face the next ball.
But the ball-watching Ferreira did not see him coming as both batters were stranded at one end even as the ball hit the fumbling wicketkeeper Unmukt Chand before going to Sherfane Rutherford at short-third. The West Indies player quickly passed the ball to Ali Khan, who dislodged the stumps, as Ferreira tried in vain to reach the other end. The Proteas all-rounder was not impressed with Ranjane’s move as he ran in disbelief before departing the field shaking his head in anger.
LOL!
