Pat Cummins will lead a 15-member Australian team against South Africa in the World Test Championship Final scheduled to start on June 11th at Lord’s. Cameron Green returns after his back surgery while Matthew Kuhnemann also figures in the team that will travel to West Indies after the WTC final.

‌Cricket Australia announced a 15-member squad that will play against South Africa in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s from June 11. Pacer Pat Cummins will lead the side with Cameron Green returning from a long injury layoff and left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann also in the mix after his successful Sri Lankan tour, with the same side scheduled to travel to the Caribbean for a three-Test series after the WTC final.

Green missed the majority of the last season due to a back injury that required surgery with his last Test against New Zealand dating back to March 2024. However, the all-rounder will be available only as a specialist batter for the WTC final and the West Indies tour and is expected to resume bowling duties later in the year. He made a return to competitive cricket with a century for Gloucestershire in the County Championship Division Two match against Kent.

Meanwhile, Kuhnemann will act as a back-up for veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon in the WTC Final and may partner Lyon during the West Indies tour. He had an excellent series in Sri Lanka finishing as the top wicket-taker with 16 scalps from two Test matches.

Josh Hazlewood missed the final two Test matches against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and the subsequent Sri Lanka tour with injury. The pacer did not figure in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s last game before IPL 2025 was suspended, due to a shoulder niggle and is expected to recover when the tournament resumes.

Hazlewood, left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc and wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis, if they choose to travel to India, are in with a chance to make it to the playoffs of the IPL, scheduled from May 29 to June 3. Skipper Pat Cummins and Travis Head, however, do not have a chance to make it to the IPL 2025 playoffs and will be available after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s last league game on May 25.

Australia finished second on the WTC 2023-25 points table with a percentage quotient of 67.54 with 13 wins in 19 Test matches while South Africa ended on top of the table with a quotient of 69.44 from 12 games, winning eight of those.

Meanwhile, pacer Brendan Doggett figures in the side as the travelling reserve after his impressive performance for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield 2024-25 picking up 33 wickets from seven matches, including a 11-wicket haul in the final.
