With rain looming as a threat to many of the remaining matches, the IPL has come up with a decision to have an additional 120 minutes in order to complete the entire 20 overs. The extension will be applicable to the remaining nine league matches of IPL 2025 starting with the CSK vs RR match.

‌The IPL have decided to have an extra 120 minutes for all the remaining matches of the 2025 season in a bid to complete the games with rain looming as a big threat to the fixtures. The decision will come into force with the Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals match in Delhi on Tuesday.

That means the cutoff time to start a full 20-over match will extend to 5:30 PM IST for a day match and 9:30 PM IST for an evening match with starts normally scheduled at 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM respectively. Earlier, the league matches had a cutoff time of one hour from normal time to start a full game while the extension went till two hours for the playoffs.

But all the remaining matches in IPL 2025 will have an extension of 120 minutes in case of rain or other interruptions. The latest start time for a five-over game will be 7:56 PM for a day game and 11:56 PM for the evening game.

The IPL had earlier changed the venue of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Sunrisers Hyderabad game scheduled on May 23 from the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow owing to heavy rainfall in Bengaluru with the meteorological department giving a yellow alert till Thursday.

Bengaluru had already seen a game between RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders being washed out last week with another match against Punjab Kings getting shortened. Apart from those games, two more games were abandoned due to inclement weather in Kolkata and Hyderabad while another game at Mumbai between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans saw multiple interruptions.

With eight of the nine remaining fixtures set to happen in the evening, the decision will help teams have full games as they approach the business end of the tournament.
