Coventry City have signed 22-year-old right-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa for a fee between £3.5m and £5m. The England youth international has agreed to a four-year deal. Following a standout season at Preston North End, Kesler-Hayden becomes Frank Lampard’s second summer addition after Miguel Angel Brau.
When the summer transfer window opened, Coventry City wasted no time in strengthening their squad under new manager Frank Lampard. The club’s second signing of the window is 22-year-old right-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden, who joins from Aston Villa for a reported fee between £3.5 million and £5 million. Kesler-Hayden has penned a four-year deal at the CBS Arena as Lampard continues reshaping the squad ahead of the new Championship season.
Lampard, who was instrumental in securing the deal, praised the defender’s ambition and suitability to the team’s playing style. The England youth international, who made his senior debut for Villa against Liverpool in the FA Cup, has gained experience through loan spells at Swindon Town, MK Dons, Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, and most recently Preston North End.
Last season at Preston, Kesler-Hayden made 51 appearances across all competitions, scored twice, and swept the end-of-season awards, winning Player of the Year, Players’ Player, and Young Player of the Year. Speaking about the move, he expressed excitement and belief in Lampard’s vision, calling the switch “the perfect step” in his career. His arrival follows last week’s signing of left-back Miguel Angel Brau as Lampard’s rebuild gathers momentum.
