Real Madrid is set to finalise the signing of Benfica left-back Alvaro Fernandez Carreras. With Manchester United holding a 20% sell-on clause, they could earn around £7.6 million if the €50 million release clause is triggered. This boost would aid manager Ruben Amorim’s transfer plans at Old Trafford.

As the summer transfer window intensifies, Real Madrid is moving quickly to secure the signing of left-back Álvaro Carreras from Benfica, a move that could financially benefit Manchester United. Carreras, a former United academy product, has already agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants, but Benfica delayed the transfer to retain him for the Club World Cup.

With their elimination, Real Madrid are now expected to finalise the deal in July. Initially, Madrid considered triggering Carrera’s €50 million release clause, but with less urgency now, they may negotiate a lower fee. This is significant for Manchester United, who inserted a 20 percent sell-on clause above £5 million when they sold Carrera to Benfica. If the full release clause is paid, United would receive 20 percent of £37.9 million, around £7.6 million.

This unexpected windfall comes at a critical time for manager Ruben Amorim, who is rebuilding the United squad. With investments already made in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Carreras deal could inject fresh funds into their transfer budget. United have opted not to activate their buy-back clause, having signed Patrick Dorgu instead. As a result, all focus shifts to Real Madrid finalising the deal, which indirectly supports United’s summer plans.
