Lionel Messi delivered a sensational performance, scoring two goals and providing three assists in Inter Miami’s 5-1 win over Columbus Crew. With 10 goals and 6 assists in 13 league games, Messi joined MLS history by recording five or more goal contributions in multiple matches—a feat previously achieved only by Diego Rossi.
When the lights shone bright at Chase Stadium on May 31, 2025, Lionel Messi delivered another masterclass as Inter Miami thrashed Columbus Crew 5-1 in a dominant MLS performance. Messi, 37, produced two goals and three assists, lifting his season tally to 10 goals and six assists in just 13 league appearances. This sensational outing followed his midweek display against Montreal, where he recorded a brace and two assists, giving him eight goal involvements in a single week.
With his five goal contributions, Messi joined an elite club — only two other players in MLS history have managed at least two goals and three assists in a single game: Alex Pineda Chacon in 2001 and Diego Rossi in 2018. Messi now also shares the record with Rossi for the most MLS games (two) with five or more goal contributions.
Inter Miami’s resurgence was timely, as the club had managed just one win in their last seven matches. The emphatic victory propelled them to third in the Eastern Conference standings ahead of the June international break. Messi, named in Argentina’s provisional squad, will soon return for Inter Miami’s historic Club World Cup debut against Al Ahly on June 14 at Hard Rock Stadium.
