The sixteenth seeds had beaten Elgin-Jaziri in the first round losing only two games in the process, and they continued in the same vein in their second round encounter. Throughout the course of the match, the sixteenth pair didn’t serve particularly well, with less than 50% first serves dropping in.

However, they compensated it with their returns, winning more than 45% points on the opponents serve. That return efficiency earned them three break opportunities in the match, two of which were converted helping them to a comfortable straight-sets win.

In the first set, it was the big points that made all the difference. There were 4 break points shared between the two teams, three of which were won by the higher ranked side helping them to a 6-4 first set victory.

The second set was not much different, except for the fact that Mayer-Knowle did not get a single break of serve. Paes-Matkowski on their part had 2 chances to break, and succeeded with one to run out 6-4, 6-3 winners.
