Munaf Patel was fined by the BCCI for breaching code of conduct in Delhi on Wednesday

The golden rule of cricket, or any sport for that matter, is that the adjudicator's word is final and binding. Munaf Patel, as a senior veteran, knows about it all to well -- yet, he let the heat of the moment get to him on Wednesday and argued with an umpire that led to expected consequences.

D‌elhi Capitals reclaimed their position at the top of the table at the Arun Jaitely Stadium by resisting the Rajasthan Royals in a thrilling encounter that was decided through a Super Over. The tied game, a first in four years in the Indian Premier League, featured the hosts managing to defend a paltry eight runs in the final overs courtesy of resplendent reverse swinging yorkers by Mitchell Starc, who then restricted the visitors to just 11 runs in the ensuing tiebreaker where Tristan Stubbs finished things off with a six with two balls to spare. Naturally, the emotions ran high throughout the nail-biter, and proved enough to hand Munaf Patel a repirmand from the authorities.

With Rajasthan cloisng in on the target, the Capitals bowling coach seemed to try pass on a mesage onto the field only to be denied by the officials. In a video that has since gone viral, the former Indian pacer is seen animatedly arguing with the fourth-umpire on the sidelines while tying his shoe laces and at one point, the official has to respond to stop the barrage coming his way.

Soon after the match, the BCCI released a statement revealing that the bowling coach had been handed a 25% match fee fine as well as a demerit point, in accordance with Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

"Munaf Patel admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 - which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game - and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding," the IPL release added.

Twitter had mixed emotions about the news.
