SA vs AUS | Twitter unimpressed as Pat Cummins burns out all DRS reviews in desperate bid for breakthroughs

DRS is used by players as a guard against umpiring blunders, but Australian skipper Pat Cummins used it as a last throw of the dice to save them in the WTC 2025 final against South Africa. The pacer burned all three reviews for decisions that looked straightforward and did not warrant a referral.
In the fourth ball of the 65th over, Cummins bowled an inswinger that dipped into new batter Tristan Stubbs after pitching on a length around middle stump. But the swing ensured that the impact of the contact was just outside leg with the ball comfortably gliding down to miss the leg stump by miles.
He was not done as he used his second review six overs later again out of optimism with Mitchell Starc being the bowler this time. With the left-arm pacer banging one short around leg stump, Stubbs tried to pull the delivery but missed it completely as the ball went to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. With Starc unsure of any nick, it was Carey who showed interest and Cummins was all for it as they wasted a second review with the ball passing the glove and not making any contact with the batter.
And with the target coming to 35 and South Africa having six wickets in the bank, it needed something of a miracle to stop them from stopping their wretched run in ICC events. And Cummins again was in the thick of the action as he chose to take his third and final review in the 73rd over. Starc once again bowled short with David Bedingham going for the pull and missing it to get hit on top of his pads. But in real time itself, the ball looked well past the off stump and replays confirmed that the impact was way outside the timber as Pat Cummins smiled sheepishly.
Twitter was unimpressed with the Aussie skipper who was trying to make up for Australia's blunder in not reviewing Nathan Lyon’s LBW appeal in an Ashes Test at Headingley in 2019 that they lost by one wicket.
That was not required there!

Yeah true that!
Australia burn their final review in desperation!🔥
— Abhisek Gupta (@ABHISTRONG)
Starc's LBW shout on Bedingham clearly pitched outside off -but Cummins rolls the dice anyway. All 3 reviews are gone, just like Headingley 2019😬
Meanwhile,Markram drives SA past 250 - just 32 away from glory!🏆
They have no reviews left now!
Aussies are so desperate

Earlier Pat wasted a review
Now Starc
Brilliant ball that was!
Stubbs bowled by a Starc special! 🔥
— Abhisek Gupta (@ABHISTRONG)
Held back early, Starc delivers magic round the wicket — seam, swing, and leg stump gone! Australia are back in charge after burning a review. Bedingham walks into fire!
That was good comeback!
Last ball review next ball starc gets the wicket
— atharva (@that_atharva)
No option now!
Inshallah we can get a howler now which Australia can't review
— AA (@Ayushxa)
It is all SA's now!
Australia lose their last review, 6 wickets still to capture, 35 runs needed for SA.
— Andy (@parkster59)
Hahaha!
It would be funny if there is a not out given now and Australia needs a review
— Tarun (@tarun203)
No more hopes there!
No more review for Australia🤣🤣🤣🤣 the accepted defeat now
