Ashwin has been accused of ball tampering by the Madurai franchise

TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan has revealed that they have asked Madurai Panthers to ‘furnish proof’ of their ball tampering allegations. While criticizing the franchise for alleging wrongdoing without providing evidence, Kannan added that the TNPL would form an independent committee to investigate.

The controversy arose after the Match 11 of the ongoing TNPL where Siechem Madurai Panthers were handed a nine wicket loss by Dindigul Dragons. The former had accused the former Indian spinner of tampering with the ball during the game. The team alleged that the Dragons has used towels with “chemicals” on them in order to make the ball heavier. The team also claimed that the ball made a metallic sound when it came in contact with the bat.

While Kannan acknowledged the complaint, he expressed his reservations about making allegations against a player or a franchise without sufficient evidence. He also added that in case the franchise was unable to provide evidence for the alleged tampering, the league would sanction the Madurai based team.

“They have filed a complaint, which we have acknowledged. Though they have to lodge any complaints within 24 hours of the game, we have still accepted it and have asked them to furnish proof of their allegations,” Kannan was quoted saying by The Indian Express.

“We will be forming an independent committee if we find there is any truth to their allegations. Without sufficient evidence, it is wrong to put forth such allegations against a player and another franchise. If they don’t provide any evidence, then Madurai will face due sanctions”

Both team currently sit in the middle of the pack, fifth and sixth, with the Dragons leading by two points.
