Bangladesh strengthened their position further to end day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka at 484/9 in Galle on Wednesday. Overnight centurion Mushfiqur Rahim completed his 150 while Litton Das made a stroke-filled 90 as the visitors continued to frustrate the Lankans on a rain-affected day.

‌Bangladesh continued their good batting show for a second straight day to move to a position of strength against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle on Wednesday. Mushfiqur Rahim completed his 150 and stitched a useful partnership with Litton Das, who was dismissed for 90, to end a rain-affected day at 484/9 that left the visitors frustrated.

The overnight partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur, which was at 247, could add only 17 more runs before skipper Shanto was dismissed by Asitha Fernando for 148 in the seventh over of the day. However, Litton joined the senior batter to see the side till lunch without another dismissal as 91 runs came in 27 overs in the first session.

The post-lunch session was eventful for Bangladesh with Mushfiqur completing his 150 and Litton getting to his fifty in just 64 balls and the side going past the 400-run mark in between.  Soon the play had to be stopped as persistent rains forced the umpires into taking an early tea.

With the last session of the day starting after a delay, the Tigers lost their top-scorer Mushfiqur for 163 to be Fernando’s third dismissal with the 149-run partnership with Litton also coming to an end. His dismissal led to a quick burst of wickets as Litton also departed in the very next over with his innings, which included 11 fours and a six, ending 10 runs short of a well-deserved century. In ten overs, the visitors slid from 458/4 to 484/9 with play coming to an end after 61 overs of action on day two.
