Mumbai Indians put on a clinical performance to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs with a 59-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav shone with the bat with an unbeaten 73 off just 43 balls while Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets apiece.

‌Brief score: MI 180/5 (20) [Suryakumar Yadav 73*(43); Mukesh Kumar 2/48(4)] beat DC 121/10 (18.2) [Sameer Rizvi 39(35); Mitchell Santner 3/11(4), Jasprit Bumrah 3/12(3.2)] by 59 runs.

After being sent in, MI started on a positive note with Ryan Rickelton welcoming Dushmantha Chameera with two sixes in his first over. With Will Jacks also joining in, the hosts made 54/2 in the powerplay with the English batter getting out in the sixth over to Mukesh Kumar. And with Rickelton also departing in the next over off Kuldeep, MI were on the backfoot with spin taking centre stage. The middle phase saw MI struggle against the tweakers with the ball spinning and gripping off the surface. However, Suryakumar Yadav’s patience against the slower bowlers paid off as he, along with Naman Dhir, targeted the pacers in the death overs. The duo put on a game-changing unbeaten 57-run stand for the sixth wicket in just 21 balls, including 48 runs in the last two overs, to help MI to a competitive total. Surya top-scored for the team with 73 from 43 balls while Naman scored an 8-ball 24 to help MI to 180/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In return, DC got off to their worst possible start slumping to 27/3 in only the fifth over with openers KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis along with Abishek Porel back in the hut. With Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar and Will Jacks picking up a wicket apiece, the visitors were staring down the barrel. However, there was some resistance from the middle order with Vipraj Nigam, Ashutosh Sharma and Sameer Rizvi building key partnerships. But left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner bowled a match-winning spell of 3/11 to end Delhi’s hopes in the chase. Jasprit Bumrah also chipped in with a three-wicket haul as Mumbai skittled out Delhi for 121 with 10 balls to spare. With that win, MI qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs and DC were officially knocked out.
