England ended the first day of the Test match against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in a dominant position. Their control was driven by top-order batters Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Ollie Pope, who scored centuries as England closed the day at a huge 498/3 with Pope and Harry Brook at the crease.

‌England dominated Day 1 of the Test against Zimbabwe in Nottingham after being put in to bat. Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine’s decision to bowl first backfired as openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett launched a blistering assault. The pair added 130 runs by lunch, with Duckett racing to a 47-ball half-century and Crawley following with his own fifty. The duo maintained their aggressive tempo after the break, and Duckett reached a fluent century off 100 balls. Their 221-run stand finally ended when Duckett fell for 133, dismissed by Wessly Madhevere.

Ollie Pope joined Crawley and continued the onslaught, taking England to 295/1 at tea. Crawley soon brought up his fifth Test ton but was eventually removed for 145 by Sikandar Raza. Pope remained in fine touch, scoring a commanding century from just 109 balls. Joe Root chipped in with a useful 34 before falling, but not before becoming one of the fastest batters to reach 13,000 Test runs.

By stumps, England had amassed a mammoth 498/3 in 88 overs. Pope remained unbeaten alongside Harry Brook, having helped England completely dictate terms on a high-scoring opening day.
