IRE vs WI | Twitter in disbelief as Carty ton and Forde's 16-ball fifty go in vain with rain saving Ireland

Keacy Carty's second ODI ton proved meaningless as rain washed out the second ODI between West Indies and Ireland

West Indies could not make the most of a sensational batting effort wherein they scored 352/8 as rain forced a no-result, in the second ODI against Ireland in Dublin. Keacy Carty's composed ton carried the Windies through the middle-overs before Matthew Forde's audacious knock took them beyond par.

โ€ŒWest Indies, opting to bat, started brightly with Evin Lewis hitting three early boundaries. However, Ireland struck back as Barry McCarthy dismissed Brandon King and Josh Little removed Lewis, leaving the visitors at 55/2 after 10 overs. Shai Hope and Keacy Carty then steadied the innings, cautiously adding 72 before Hope fell on 49. Carty accelerated post his fifty, smashing 17 off one McCarthy over and later bringing up his second ODI century. Though he departed soon after, Matthew Fordeโ€™s explosive 16-ball fifty โ€” equalling AB de Villiersโ€™ record for the fastest in ODIs โ€” completely shifted momentum. Forde smashed six sixes, with strong support from Justin Greaves (44* off 36) and Gudakesh Motie (18 off 8), pushing the total to a daunting 353.

Just as Ireland prepared to chase, rain intervened. Persistent showers meant no further play was possible, and the match was abandoned after a nearly three-hour delay, denying Ireland a chance to respond to West Indies' imposing total.
