Chelsea may have to pay over £21 million to terminate Raheem Sterling’s contract, which runs until 2027 and is worth around £300,000 per week. Despite a loan spell at Arsenal, where he made little impact, Arsenal opted against a permanent move. Chelsea are now considering selling Sterling, who cost them £50 million in 2022.

When the news broke about Chelsea possibly terminating Raheem Sterling’s contract, it raised eyebrows across the football world. Having joined from Manchester City in 2022 for £50million, Sterling is currently under contract until June 2027 and earns over £300,000 per week. Financial expert Stefan Borson has revealed that Chelsea would likely need to pay at least 70 percent of the £30million still owed to Sterling, an amount that could exceed £21million, if they want to terminate his deal this summer.

After falling out of favour under manager Enzo Maresca, Sterling was loaned to Arsenal last season but failed to make a lasting impact, leading the Gunners to pass on a permanent transfer. In 81 appearances for Chelsea, he has recorded 19 goals and 15 assists, though he hasn’t featured for the club in over a year.

With new arrivals like Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens pushing Sterling further down the pecking order, Chelsea are looking to offload him. However, terminating the contract would be a very costly move. Meanwhile, the Blues are also open to offers for 19-year-old defender Josh Acheampong, despite him signing a new deal until 2029, with Tottenham and Newcastle both interested.
