As the English summer transfer window approaches, the deadline for transfers has been moved forward to 7pm, four hours earlier than usual. This change was made after discussions between the Football Association, Premier League, and the English Football League, with the goal of providing a more manageable working pattern for club staff on deadline day.
European leagues are also expected to adopt similar changes. The move comes ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, which will see Chelsea and Manchester City participate. These two clubs will have an additional 10-day transfer window from June 1 to June 10, which will close at 7pm as well. This window allows Premier League teams to sign and sell players ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on June 14.
The main summer transfer window will then open on June 16 and remain open until September 1. While there were discussions about bringing the window forward to close before the season starts, no agreement was reached as it would disadvantage English clubs compared to their European counterparts. Additionally, the timing for the winter transfer window closing has yet to be decided.
