LSG vs RCB | Twitter applauds as Rishabh Pant withdraws appeal from Digvesh Rathi to run out Jitesh Sharma

Playing as per the spirit of the game is tough in an intense battle and it needs something special to keep composure and play by the gentleman tag of the game. Rishabh Pant did exactly that when he withdrew an appeal from Digvesh Rathi who caught Jitesh Sharma short of his crease in his run-up.

‌Rishabh Pant hogged the limelight as he struck form with the bat in Lucknow Super Giant’s last league game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. He remained unbeaten with a belligerent knock of 118 off 61 balls as LSG powered to 227/3 in 20 overs.

The RCB chase was also on track with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli giving them a brisk start and the latter reaching his eighth fifty in IPL this year. But with Kohli’s dismissal, the match sat on a knife’s edge with 89 runs needed from the last seven overs. But Jitesh Sharma came up with a captain’s knock smashing six fours and three sixes to drive the team back in contention bringing up his fifty in just 22 balls.

With only 29 runs needed from the last 19 balls and six wickets in hand, RCB looked comfortable, as LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi was desperate to pick up a wicket. He stopped in his run-up to catch Jitesh short of the crease as she whipped off the bails and appealed for a run-out.

Just as the third umpire was reviewing the dismissal, the LSG captain came up with an excellent gesture as he signalled the on-field umpire that he was withdrawing the appeal. The act shone brighter than his century earlier in the innings, as Jitesh acknowledged his sportsmanship with a hug.

Twitter saluted Pant’s spirit as they were reminded of Courtney Walsh who denied running out a batter during the West Indies-Pakistan game in the 1987 World Cup.
