Trent Boult’s sensational bowling performance outplayed the LAKR batters in the MLC and helped MI New York register their second win from eight matches in the current season. With this win, MINY have moved to the fifth spot in the standings, surpassing the last-placed LAKR with two points.

LAKR were asked to bat by MINY skipper Nicholas Pooran, and the bowlers lived up to their captain’s expectations, restricting LAKR to just 154/8 in the allotted 20 overs. Sherfane Rutherford scored 86 runs off just 44 balls, with five fours and six sixes. Trent Boult claimed 4 wickets, alongside the veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard’s two wickets as well as one each for Ehsan Adil and Nosthush Kenjige.

Boult ran through LAKR’s top-order within the first five overs of the innings. He scalped a wicket each in all of his three overs in the powerplay, which were the first, third, and fifth over of the first innings. At the end of the powerplay, Boult registered the figures of 3 wickets at just 11 runs in 3 overs, before taking his fourth wicket in the 19th over of the innings, which was also the fourth over of his quota. Boult also won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his match-winning performance in MINY’s favour.

While chasing the target, MI New York scored 155/2 in just 17.5 overs, courtesy of 56 and an unbeaten knock of 62 runs scored by opener Monank Patel and skipper Nicholas Pooran. On the back of these knocks, MINY managed to win the game by 8 wickets. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell could scalp only a wicket each for their side. After this defeat, LAKR have slipped to the sixth and last spot in the tournament’s points table, with only one win and seven defeats in their eight matches so far, having only 2 points to their name, registering four consecutive defeats in the last four games.
