ENG vs IND | Twitter on the edge as Rishabh Pant injures himself after fancy shot goes awry

‌India got off to a good start after being put into bat by England in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. Openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal started cautiously under overcast conditions with the pacers getting enough purchase with the new Dukes ball. The pair did well to take India to lunch at 78/0 in 26 overs.

However, the visitors lost three wickets in the second session as England bounced back to restrict them to 149/3 at tea. Jaiswal scored a half-century while Rahul got out for 46 with Gill managing just 12 runs.

Rishabh Pant and Sai Sudharsan rebuilt the Indian innings with a 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with Sudharsan playing the anchor role with 47 off 131 balls. Meanwhile, Pant was the aggressor with a brisk 37 off 48 balls, which included a slog sweep four off Jofra Archer and a straight six off Brydon Carse.

Just as he was trying to pull something similar off Chris Woakes, the wicketkeeper-batter got badly injured. The medium-pacer altered his length to bowl a fullish delivery outside off stump, off the fourth ball of the 68th over, just as he saw the southpaw lining up for a reverse sweep.

The ball took an inside edge before landing straight on his right foot, hurting it badly as England players appealed for an LBW. With captain Ben Stokes opting for a review, Pant was seen struggling with the impact injury as the physio rushed in to attend to him.

But the injury looked very bad as Pant was hardly able to walk with the mobile stretcher being called into action. Twitter was anxious as Pant was taken off the field for the second straight match after suffering a hand injury in the previous game.
