Arsenal are closing in on a £70 million deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has netted 97 goals in 102 appearances since joining from Coventry. Negotiations for personal terms and fees are ongoing. The 27-year-old Swede is seen as a key signing to boost Arsenal’s title hopes next season.
In the latest twist to Arsenal's transfer window, the club is closing in on a £70 million deal to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. Talks are rapidly progressing as Arsenal, led by sporting director Andrea Berta, negotiates both personal terms and a transfer fee with Sporting. While the deal isn’t finalized yet, Arsenal are increasingly confident of bringing the 27-year-old Sweden international to north London.
Gyokeres has been sensational in Portugal, scoring an extraordinary 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting and helping the club win two consecutive league titles and the 2024-25 Portuguese Cup and his form has made him one of Europe’s most wanted forwards. The move comes days after Arsenal secured Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £60 million, highlighting their aggressive summer recruitment strategy.
Originally a Brighton signing from Sweden’s IF Brommapojkarna, Gyokeres struggled for game time in England and had loan spells at St Pauli, Swansea, and Coventry City, where he later became a prolific scorer. Arsenal’s pursuit underlines Mikel Arteta’s intent to add elite firepower to his squad following criticism that last season’s title challenge fell short due to a lack of a top striker. If the deal materializes, Gyokeres is expected to be the focal point of Arsenal’s attack in the new season.
