Frank Lampard aims to reverse Coventry City's habit of slow season starts, which led to his appointment. After missing promotion narrowly last season, Lampard sees the August 9 opener against Hull City as a key opportunity. Pre-season clashes against Monaco, Real Betis, and St Pauli are set to shape the squad's readiness for a crucial campaign.
When the 2024-25 season began poorly for Coventry City, it ultimately led to Frank Lampard replacing Mark Robins. Now, ahead of a fresh Championship campaign, Lampard is determined to change the narrative by ensuring the Sky Blues start strong. Last season’s early struggles forced the team into playing catch-up, making their eventual play-off run all the more remarkable. Lampard believes a solid beginning is key to pushing for automatic promotion in 2025-26.
The club’s pre-season preparations are in full swing, with upcoming games against AS Monaco, Real Betis, and St Pauli expected to sharpen the squad ahead of the season opener at home to Hull City on August 9. Pleased to start the season at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Lampard spoke highly of the supporters and the momentum built at the stadium last year.
He praised the challenging pre-season fixtures for providing different styles and high-quality opposition, critical to preparing his players. Acknowledging that his own appointment was a result of a slow start last year, Lampard stressed the importance of being fit and focused from the first whistle. With strong fan backing and clear intent, the Sky Blues will aim to launch their promotion push with confidence.
