ENG vs IND | Indian team was visibly frustrated over ball-changing incident

There have been some unusual events that have taken place during a game of cricket, where the officials and umpires have made the headlines. One such event was witnessed during Day 1of the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy when the Indian team asked for a ball change.

‌India’s challenge at Lord’s did not get off to a great start as the hosts were able to get the scorecard to a comfortable 153/2 by Tea on Day 1. Even with Jasprit Bumrah back in the line-up, the Indian side, led by Shubman Gill, were struggling to get a breakthrough with the duo of Joe Root (41*) and Ollie Pope (24*) putting a price on their wickets. With nothing going their way, India looked to the umpires to offer some respite, which led to a surprising turn of events with just six balls between them.

Post the 42nd over, Gill walked upto Sharfuddoula asking him to look at the ball and hoping for a change. The fourth umpire rushed onto the field with his box of balls but before he could get anywhere close to the players, the Bangladeshi umpire waved him off as the ball passed his tests on the field. While Gill walked away shaking his head, Akashdeep prepared himself to bowl his tenth over of the innings. Despite an appeal for an LBW, the pacer ended up conceding a run a ball over which brought about a deja vu moment.

Gill decided to test his luck yet again, but this time with umpire Paul Reiffel. The Aussie umpire decided to test the ball again, and after a small conversation with his partner in crime, the official, much to India’s delight, sided with the visiting side.

The netizens were left confused by the exchange and were quick to question the officials in the middle.
