ENG vs IND | Twitter impressed as Joe Root headlines England’s cautious approach on day one

Joe Root scored a patient half-century to anchor England to 251/4 at the end of the first day’s play of the third Test at Lord’s in London on Thursday. The former skipper remained unbeaten on 99, adding 79 runs with captain Ben Stokes for the fifth wicket as the hosts finished at 251/4.
After opting to bat under warm conditions, England had a cautious first hour of play to be placed at 39/0. However, Nitish had a dream start in his first Test at Lord’s, accounting for both Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in his very first over as the hosts went for lunch at 83/2.
Joe Root and Ollie Pope put England’s aggressive Bazball approach to the back burner as they adopted a no-risk approach to manage just 70 runs in 24 overs in the second session without losing a wicket. Root completed a patient half-century, in 102 balls, while Pope gave him company at 44.
However, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja struck with the first ball after tea to dismiss Ollie Pope to end the 109-run partnership. England lost another wicket shortly after Jasprit Bumrah castled Harry Brook five overs later. But, Root carried on at the other end to remain unbeaten on 99 and added an unbroken 79 runs for the fifth wicket with captain Ben Stokes.

Great day!
Great, gritty day at Lord's ends with England 251 for four, and Joe Root 99 not out. A major worry looming for England with Ben Stokes nursing what looks like a calf injury, picked up batting in the final session.

Harm
Bazball has done more harm to Joe Root than any other player. He shifted his playing style to adapt to Bazball 🙂
