Fielding sides are confident whenever a run-out appeal is referred to the TV umpire, and Mohammed Siraj was no different during India’s fourth Test against England in Manchester. The pacer ruled Ben Stokes out even before the third umpire, only to find himself in an embarrassing situation later on.

‌England were looking to extend their already advantageous position against India at the start of day four at Old Trafford in Manchester. With the lead at 186 runs, Ben Stokes and Liam Dawson came out with the intention of batting India out of the game and pocketing the five-match series.

The England captain displayed intent as he went for a quick single after clipping Jasprit Bumrah to mid-on in the fourth ball of the day. He showed no signs of fatigue from the previous day, running full tilt just as Anshul Kamboj came running in to hit the stumps with his underarm throw.

Mohammed Siraj ran in to congratulate the young pacer and looked confident as he ruled Stokes out even before the third umpire. But Stokes was confident that he had made ground with TV replays justifying his reaction.

With the giant screen flashing not out, the cameras panned towards Siraj as he embarrassingly hid his face under the shades of his hat. The pacer tried his best to control his sheepish smile as he encouraged Kamboj for his fielding.

The commentators Ravi Shastri and Nasser Hussain trolled Siraj with Shastri quipping that his teammates will urge him to focus on bowling rather than umpiring. Hussain also joined in asking why Stokes was still on the field even after Siraj ruled him out.

Twitter was in splits as Siraj quietly shifted his focus back to the game.
