Cricketers are often seen juggling the cricket ball with their foot on the field, but England pacer Brydon Carse turned to hockey during the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford in Manchester. He showed great presence of mind to use his willow to hit the ball away to prevent getting bowled.

‌England piled on the runs to add to India’s misery in the first session of day four of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. Starting the day with a lead of 186 runs, skipper Ben Stokes completed a gritty century before switching gears.

The England all-rounder smashed three sixes to take England past the 650-run mark before getting dismissed for 141. With England’s lead swelling to 300 and Stokes returning, Brydon Carse took it on himself to continue the scoring spree.

After smashing Washington Sundar for a cross-batted six over long-on in the fourth ball of the 157th over, the pacer tried to repeat the feat the next ball. The ball, pitched away from his arc by the off-spinner, took an under-edge before making its way to the stumps.

But in an excellent display of presence of mind, Carse suddenly turned his willow into a hockey stick to guide the ball away from the stumps in the nick of time. Dhruv Jurel, who was standing behind the stumps, was shocked as Carse even started attempting a run before changing his mind to return to the crease.

Twitter was amused by Carse’s presence of mind and hockey skills with the cricket bat.
