Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka celebrates after dismissing Rohit Sharma in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023

Left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka returned from injury as Sri Lanka named a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh from July 2. Middle-order batter Sadeera Samarawickrama also finds his way back into the team after being dropped late last year owing to poor form.

โ€ŒDilshan Madushanka returns to the Sri Lankan ODI fold as he was named in the squad for the three-match series against Bangladesh starting early next month. The left-arm pacer, who missed the home series against Australia in February this year with an injury, replaces Lahiru Kumara to find a place in the 16-member squad.

Madushanka has been troubled by injuries after his impressive showing in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India where he picked up 21 wickets in nine games, the third-highest in the tournament, at an average of 25.00 and a strike rate of 22.38. The pacer had to pull out halfway through the Bangladesh tour in March last year with a hamstring injury before a recurrence saw him miss the home series against India in August.

Madushanka joins Asitha Fernando and Eshan Malinga, who had an impressive outing with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League 2025, with medium pacer Milan Rathnayake also getting a maiden call-up in ODIs. However, Rathnayake will feature in the ODIs only if he recovers from a side strain he picked during the first Test against Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka have named a four-man spin attack with leg-spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Jeffrey Vandersay both finding a place alongside Maheesh Theekshana and left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage.

Meanwhile, middle-order batter Sadeera Samarawickrama also returns to the ODI side after being left out owing to his poor form last year. He will be in the fray to feature in an ODI for Sri Lanka after almost seven months since his last appearance against New Zealand in November last year.

The ODI series is scheduled to start on July 2 with the first two matches to be played in Colombo before action shifts to Pallekele for the last game on July 8. The ODI series will be followed by a three-match T20I series slated to begin on July 10 at Pallekele.
