A year on from the T20 World Cup victory, India is reeling from a tough loss in the Test series opener against England but it hasn't stopped them from celebrating the achievement. While Rishabh Pant was at his hilarious best during the festivities, Ravindra Jadeja's comeback game was on point too.
The Indian cricket team was in a festive mood in Birmingham on Sunday as the management organized a celebration for the one-year anniversary of India's successful T20 World Cup campaign in the Carribean. There were two cakes around which the entire squad assembled to indulge and after some polite back-and-forths between players to decide who will do the cutting honours, the contingent settled on Jasprit Bumrah considering he was named the player of the tournament as well as produced a match winning spell in the final. However, amidst all the banter, it was Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja that ultimately stole the spotlight with an exchange that had the whole room giggling and cackling.
Pant took on the resonsibility of feeding everyone the cut cake and before long it was Jadeja's turn. However, as the youngster presented the cake to his senior, he slyly remarked "happy retirement", referencing the all-rounder's decision to step down from T20Is at the end of the tournament last year. But Jadeja was having none of it as he immediately looked at the cameras and reinforced that he had so far quit just one format -- possibly a cheeky remark aimed at critics after the 36-year-old endured a disappointing showing in the opening Test in Leeds.
The second Test begins at Edgbaston on July 2.
