WATCH, MLC | Mukkamalla outdoes Jaiswal's misfield antics with tragically comic hand-slip to gift four runs

Kieron Pollard's 39-ball 70 for MINY was aided in some part by Saiteja Mukkamalla gifting him four runs against TSK in the MLC

Five catch drops have made Yashasvi Jaiswal the scapegoat of a surprising Indian Test loss, but the opener has nothing on what Saiteja Mukkamalla managed to do in Dallas. The Texas Super King fielder let slip the simplest of fours, much to coach Albie Morkel's chagrin and Kieron Pollard's delight.

‌Texas Super Kings ran out winners by 39 runs at the Grand Praire Stadium against MI New York after Faf du Plessis' second ton of the season had propelled the Yellow Army to a mammoth total of 223/4. MI New York tried to chase the score down by promoting skipper Nicholas Pooran up-top but the plan failed to fire before a dreamy showing from Akeal Hossein saw the spinner register figures of 3/15 and seal the encounter for the Super Kings. The only spark of positive for the Big Apple representatives was a ravaging 39-ball 70 from Kieron Pollard, the veteran smashing five boundaries and as many maximums until Nandre Burger cleaned him up in the penultimate over. While the knock featured some absurd shots typical of the Caribbean big-hitter, none of his boundaries was more memorable than a simple knock down the ground against Noor Ahmad.

Pollard had already struck the Afghan wrist-spinner for three back-to-back maximums in the 14th over and aimed to extend the streak for four as he shuffled across the crease on the last ball. However, Noor cleverly avoided Pollard's hitting arc by going wide of the stumps, forcing the 38-year-old to smack the ball along the ground towards long-off for a single. Saiteja Mukkamalla, waiting by the rope, the American bent down on one knee as the Kookaburra approached him to collect it cleanly but to his horror, the ball struck his hands and began trickling towards the boundary. Nevertheless, no harm was done as Mukkamalla quickly sprinted back with the ball still a fair way from the boundary line. Yet, as he picked up the ball to effect a quick throw and stop any extra runs, the white rock simply rolled out of the back of his hand and past the ropes to award MINY four runs.

TSK head coach Albie Morkel could not believe what he had just witness in the dugout while both Mukkamalla and Pollard came across as equally perplexed. Fortunately for the American, the incident played little role in determining the result of the encounter.
